National Technical University of Athens (NTUA)

NTUA is divided into nine academic Schools. The personnel of the nine Faculties include more than 700 people as academic staff, 140 scientific assistants and 260 administrative and technical staff. The total number of NTUA employees is about 1350. The total number of undergraduate students is about 8500 and the graduate students 1500. There are currently 19 Departmental or Inter-Departmental Postgraduate Courses. Moreover, N.T.U.A participates in 9 Post-graduate Programmes coordinated by other Greek Universities. After the acquisition of the "Post Graduate Specialization Diploma", the student can proceed towards submitting a Doctorate Thesis. The scientific staff in the Schools of NTUA, together with post-graduate researchers, apart from their teaching and related educational activities, conduct research work assisted by post-graduate students and a considerable number of external collaborators; the amount and the high standards of this research are proved by the numerous publications in International Scientific Journals and Proceedings of International Conferences as well as by the prominent place of NTUA among all Europeans Universities, due to the increasing number of research projects financed by the EU and other Greek and foreign organizations. NTUA operates many of its Laboratories also as "service laboratories", which provide expert advice, tests and measurements etc, within the framework of its technological competence, which can be useful for the development of the country. NTUA is currently estimated to have a total number of 200.000 volumes of books and over 80.000 volumes of scientific reviews. Books and reviews are available either from the Central Library of the Institution or from the Libraries of the Faculties, the Departments and the Labs. At NTUA, there is appreciable know-how into all topics of Physical and Applied Sciences, with emphasis to disciplines such as Informatics, Materials, Environment etc.

He graduated from the School of Chemical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens in 1976 and obtained his Ph.D. in 1983. He​became Teaching Assistant in 1979 and then promoted to Lecturer (1985), Assistant Professor (1988), Associate Professor (1992) and full Professor 91996) at the same School. He had worked as Visiting Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA where he became adjunct Professor in 1994. Treasurer and Secretary General of the Hellenic Polymer Society, Chairman of the Greek Association of Chemical Engineers, Vice-Chairman of the Dept. of Chemical Engineering, member of the General Assembly of the Technical Chamber of Greece and Chairman of the ETAT S.A.. He was the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change (2010-20011). Currently, he is the chairman of the Hellenic Solid Waste Management Association (HSWMA). His research activities are focused on the topics of polymer and composite materials technology, recycling and solid waste management including both urban and industrial waste. More specifically, he has been involved in research projects dealing with the treatment processes of leather and its waste products.

South Valley University (SVU)

South Valley University (SVU), Qena-Egypt covers the largest area in the country since it provides direct teaching services to approximately 20% of the total area of Egypt. As compared to this geographical weight, SVU is committed to a big social service role in the region of Upper Egypt. As a matter of fact, for a complete period of 25 years as an independent university, SVU has been serving the mission of a distinguished higher education institution, to comprise its cultural, educational, and service commitment.

SVU has more than 54'000 students enrolled throughout its teaching institutions, with more than 4'000 diploma, MA, MSc and PhD graduate students. These enrolment figures are a tribute to the creative staff and their responsible dedication to their students. SVU has also initiated non-traditional distance and open learning models that add to the enrichment of the cultural and educational development of Upper Egypt. Furthermore, SVU is ranked 17 among the top 100 Universities and Colleges in Africa according to "4 International Colleges and Universities". SVU has also worked with academic institutes in China, Italy, UK, Sweden, Greece, Spain, France and Germany. Furthermore, SVU has received funding from programmes such as TEMPUS, FP7 and Erasmus plus.

In addition, SVU helping in preparing the overall teaching material, raise awareness of solar energy education and medical engineering in Upper Egypt, ensure certification of the programme and help recruit top-calibre graduate students to the programme. Furthermore, SVU take part in the bidding of the tools and installed them on-campus.

Associate Professor in the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, South Valley University, in Qena, Egypt. I received my doctorate in nanomaterials physics in 2009 at Anna University in Chennai, India. I have authored more than 60 research papers published in peer reviewed Journals of International commendation. I was the recipient of a scientific publication award by my institution ten times (2010-2019) for being a prolific publisher of research papers in international journals. I was also an Erasmus Mundus Fellow at the Department of Chemical Physics, Lund University, Sweden. I granted the Partnership and Ownership initiative (ParOwn) for post-doctor fellowship at Nottingham University, UK. Currently, I serve as the focal point of the European Union’s RDI Program. I also am the Director of Research and Scientific Publications Centre and the Scientific Counsellor for Technology at South Valley University. I worked as SVU coordinator for 5 projects funded by EU. My interest in the scientific teaching is based on teaching recent scientific technologies such as Nanotechnology, Renewable Energy and use of modern methods in education.

Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT)

AASTMT is one of the partners in the INNOLEA project in which the Egyptian leather technology center was established. Since its establishment in 1972, AASTMT has achieved remarkable and sustained progress as a specialized organization, a top-level house of expertise, and a highly reputable technical arm for the Arab League. Today, AASTMT’s vision is to be recognized as a worldwide center of excellence for maritime and college education according to international standards of education, scientific research, innovation, and training. While fulfilling its community service responsibilities, it seeks to maintain its status as a distinguished Arab house of excellence and first choice for students regionally and internationally.

For over 47 years, AASTMT has managed to keep up with the fast pace of development in the fields of education, training, consultation, and scientific research. AASTMT has adhered to its strategy in qualifying Arab and African calibers who can become future leaders and progressive entrepreneurs in their home countries. In so doing, it has relied on building bridges of collaboration and establishing strong ties with top universities and research centers worldwide, thus enabling these distinguished calibers to become the best ambassadors for AASTMT.

Furthermore, AASTMT has always been a pioneer in obtaining quality certification for education and training in the headquarters country (Arab Republic of Egypt). It has transcended from being a regional organization to acquiring international status through obtaining international accreditation from top international entities in various specializations.

AASTMT has expanded inside and outside Egypt by establishing headquarters and branches in Alexandria, Cairo, Aswan, Port Said, Latakia (Syrian Arab Republic), in addition to its new branch in Sharjah, UAE. Taking the lead in development and seeking natural expansion, AASTMT has headed West and opened its latest branch in New Alamein City. Thus, AASTMT manages 8 campuses with 13 colleges, in addition to a number of higher education institutes, training centers and different specialized units.

College of International Transport & Logistics (CITL):
CITL is the college that represents the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) as a partner in the INNOLEA project and was responsible for conducting all related activities. AASTMT has provided the study of the management of international transport and logistics since 1995 in order to cope with the trends in the global business market. AASTMT has established the College of International Transport and Logistics (CITL), which is the only college in the Middle East and North African regions to offer bachelor’s degree in Management of Trade Logistics and International Transport, in both the Arabic and English languages. The programs of study that have been recently developed in collaboration with a number of universities in the United Kingdom to cope with the latest developments in the field of international transport and logistics. The programs are accredited by the Association of Arab Universities and the International Association of Universities. The programs have also been accredited by the Higher Council of Egyptian Universities as equal to the B.Sc. degree in Business Administration awarded by the Faculties of Commerce of the Egyptian Universities.

Industry Service Complex (ISC):
The INNOLEA Leather Technology Center of AASTMT was established inside and is being managed by the Industry Service Complex. Based on the Arabic and regional role for AASTMT, it established The Industry Service Complex (ISC) in 2004. It aims at facilitating the process of transferring modern technology and providing the different industrial sectors with consultancy and highly qualified technical staff, that contributes in developing the Arab communities. This is through the Research and Development Unit, which implements a lot of projects by adopting the modern international technologies and performing them by Egyptian hands with a competitive quality.

Dr. Sandra Haddad is an Assistant Professor in Marketing and Supply Chain Management at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport - College of International Transport and Logistics. She currently acts as the vice dean for postgraduate studies and scientific research and teaches principles of marketing, international marketing, supply chain management and strategic management in the BSc program. Dr.  Haddad holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration (major marketing) and a postgraduate diploma from the School of Management - Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.She obtained her MSc in Shipping Management from the World Maritime University in Malmoe, Sweden and her PhD in Supply Chain Management from Liverpool John Moores University in the UK. Dr. Haddad was awarded the Fellowship of the British Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) in 2013 and she is a certified Higher Fiata diploma and International Road Union (IRU) instructor. Moreover, Dr. Haddad works as a professional consultant for a number of businesses, in addition to managing a number of EU and US Aid projects.

Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST)

Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) is a comprehensive, state-supported university located on the outskirts of Irbid, in northern Jordan. JUST was established in 1986 as an autonomous national institute of higher education with the main objective of producing outstanding professionals in specializations that match the needs of Jordan and the region. Since its establishment, JUST has been at the forefront of higher learning in the Arab World. It also maintains a high reputation among the Middle Eastern universities due to its faculty and administrative staff, multi-disciplinary educational system and broad diversity of students. The university was described as the best scientific institution in the Kingdom by King Abdullah II during his last visit, and it was ranked as the top research university in the country, and amongst the top 50 universities in the Islamic World, according to a study carried out by the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries. The number of students has increased significantly since the university’s establishment. Today JUST has more than 800 full-time faculty members, with 20,000 undergraduate and 1800 graduate students. JUST comprises more than 5,000 international students of 60 nationalities, rendering it the most cultural-diverse university in Jordan.

Fahmi Abu Alrub, Professor of chemical and biochemical engineering, former Dean of Research at JUST and Key Expert at the EMUNI University-Slovenia. Prof. Abu Al-Rub is/was partner in 11 EU projects (2 EPI, 4 TEMPUS Projects, and 9 Erasmus+), and one NSF, one USAID, and one FAO project, with a total budget exceeding 18,000,000 EURO. Prof. Abu Al-Rub was the key expert and coordinator to establish the first Master's Program in the World on De-Pollution of the Mediterranean which was supposed to be hosted by three European Universities. Prof. Abu Al-Rub has reformed the Deanship of Research at JUST to establish the TTO and externally funded office to manage and secure external funds. He has active research in Environment, Renewable Energy, Biofuels, and Wastewater Treatment. He has more than 80 publications on Environment, and Wastewater Treatment, and renewable energy. ​

Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI)

Amman Chamber of Industry was established in 1962 as a nonprofit/ nongovernmental organization that aims to be the center of excellence at national and regional level in the field of support and development of the Jordanian industries -ACI is one of the major socio-economic organizations in Jordan and has around 8,000 members. ACI serves its members through organizing several programs and activities. Regarding the activities related to the project, ACI organize and provide support for the following programs:

1.Since year 2004, ACI established a training institute called the Euro Jordanian Advanced Business Institute “EJABI” which organizes several training programs covering areas such as management, finance, quality, marketing and business development. 2.Engineering Graduation Projects Linkage Program with the Industrial Sector, where engineering graduation projects for bachelor degree level are conducted based on the demands specified by the factories. 3.Competition of engineering graduation projects. This award is Organized in cooperation with Amman Chamber of Industry and Jordan Engineers Association. 4. Faculty for Factory Program. Through this, University Professors conduct consultancy and research assignments based on demands specified by the factories. 5. Technology Transfer Office aims to facilitate technology transfer from Universities to the industry and building the partnership.

ACI’s activities cover several areas:

1.Specialzed consultancy services. 2.Energy efficiency. 3.Quality, standards and international conformity certifications. 4.Awareness workshops and seminars. 5.Organzing participation in trade delegations and exhibitions.

Also, ACI cooperates and networks with several Jordanian organizations from both public and private sectors which deal with economic and industrial development issues, such as Ministries, Chambers of Industry, Chambers of Commerce, Universities, Vocational Training Institutions and Sector- Based Associations.

Al-Balqa Applied University (BAU)

Late King Hussien Bin Talal honored Al-Balqa Governorate by the issuance of the royal decree to establish Al-Balqa Applied University (BAU) on 1996. The philosophy behind the establishment of BAU is defined by the royal decree as to monitor all public, private, military and UNRWA community intermediate colleges which are more than fifty-three colleges. Thirty-four colleges are technically and academically monitored by BAU while the rest of the colleges are directly supervised by the BAU in academic, technical, financial and administrative affairs. BAU is vibrant to qualify human resources and create better higher education to Jordanians in response to the Hashemite vision. BAU is mandated to offer academic, vocational and technical programs in an applied approach for Master’s, Higher Vocational Diploma, Bachelor and Diploma degrees. It seeks to consolidate the scientific research culture in the local communities as one of the priorities of the National Socio-economic Developing plan which is regarded as a pivotal element for the adoption of the applied approach to achieve the tailored objectives of the country. Currently, fostering creativity and innovation is the key vision of BAU to meet the academic, applied and vocational needs of today world. Therefore, BAU is offering programs that are tailored to fit the ever changing needs of the labor market of local communities of university colleges all over the kingdom aiming to bridge the gap between the higher education institutions and the community intermediate colleges focusing on incorporating the vocational and technical education with the up-to-date academic sciences. Irbid and Al-Zarqa’ University Colleges offer Diploma program in Fashion and Clothing Technology. Ajloun University College offers Diploma in Fashion and technology dresses and also Dress and clothes technology. By this joint project, BAU hope to broad the field of such fashion and clothing specialties to include leather processing and technology​.

Italian Center for Permanent Learning (CIAPE)

CIAPE is the Italian National Centre for Permanent Learning, a non-profit private organization. The Italian Centre for Permanent Learning – is an innovative organization, born with the aim to lead to success a constantly changing community. We believe that only lifelong learning guarantees the individual competitiveness in a global labor market. CIAPE carries out training activities to develop and validate soft skills, as well as competences required in the future labor market. CIAPE has a strong experience in managing and implementing projects in the field of training and in the last years it has deepened its efforts in promoting transversal skills among professionals in different sectors.

Its expertise ranges from the preparation of training programs for adults and businesses, training, applied research to the world of work and in particular to the new skills for the future, innovative educational media to the activities for the exploitation of acquired skills and activities of European projects within the major programs dedicated to training. Ciape has been co-leading the project TECLO - Textile and Clothing Knowledge Alliance. Future textile and clothing managers for export, marketing, innovation, sustainability and entrepreneurship-oriented companies aimed at the modernization of Europe’s higher education systems in the field of textiles and clothing through a better anticipation of skill needs based on development of sustainable partnerships between education and employment, which are highly needed. The working group is composed by people with different educational and professional background able to cover a wide range of topics, thus providing added value to the activities that CIAPE promotes. The staff is highly motivated and committed to achieving quality outcomes and to work in synergy, each putting its knowledge and skills in the service of others.

Creative Thinking Development (CRE.THI.DEV.)

CRE.THI.DEV. is a non-profit company aiming at community development through the research and development of action plans, focused on the local and social economies, mainly on the fields of life-long learning, environmental protection, employment and local development. The company establishes close cooperation with local and regional authorities, government authorities and business associations in order to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable development through research and the raising of awareness in local communities towards available development projects. In this framework the company organizes and promotes studies and research projects, participates in European projects, cooperates with universities, companies, government authorities, technological centers and organizations, vocational training centers and business associations, focusing on the exchange of knowledge, technology and innovation. Although CRE.THI.DEV is a recently founded company, the last four years, has developed activities in life-long learning mainly with its participation in seven ERASMUS+ projects. It has also participated in two National Projects focusing on the improvement of skills of unemployed adults and in an EEA, project concerning women employability. CRE.THI.DEV is in close cooperation with Universities and experts on many fields and has undertaken various studies. The members of CRE.THI.DEV come from different disciplines and have great experience from their previous employments on coordinating and implementing National, European and International projects of a wide spectrum. Its administrator was Managing Director of ELKEDE, a Research and Technology Institute of the public sector for more than 20 years and member or president of many national and European committees and associations.

Dimosthenis Papakonstantinou, Administrator of CRE.THI.DEV, has worked in ELKEDE, Technology & Design Centre (an RTO under the authority of the Ministry of Development) as its Managing Director (1985-2004) and as Board Advisor (2004-2009). (ELKEDE was an RTO under the authority of the Ministry of Development, with European and International orientation, for the support of small and medium size enterprises of many sectors of industry (leather, footwear, textile, plastics, furniture). Its activities and services included a) training, b) waste prevention and waste treatment​, consulting services, c) quality control and certification of products, d) chemical analysis of effluents, e) technical assistance and f) Health and Safety services). From 1985 to 2011, D. Papakontantinou participated in many European research, technology, quality, training and environmental projects, offered technical assistance to Institutes and Industry in India, Ukraine and Mauritius. For 10 years he has also been founder and Managing Director of KEK-ELKEDE offering vocational training services to SMEs. As an active member of local administration since 2003, he has experience in organizing and executing projects for the benefit of the local communities. As member/President for 20 years of consulting committees and working groups of the Ministries of National Economy and Development he has experience in the definition and elaboration of specific measurements for the realization of programs at national, regional and sectoral level. In 2012 he founded CRE.THI.DEV. In the 4 years of its operation, D. Papakonstantinou has undertaken various studies in cooperation with Universities and has participated in many ERASMUS+ proposals and projects as well as in National Projects. He has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (University of Athens, Greece), a Diploma in Leather Technology (Nene College Northampton, UK) and an MA in Design Management from De Montfort University of Leicester​.

Technological Center for the Leather Industry (CTIC)

CTIC – The Portuguese Technological Centre for the Leather Industry was formally created in 1992, under the initiative of leather companies, the sector’s Association and also with a participation of the Portuguese State. CTIC has modern premises, in an area of 1.800 m2, including well equipped laboratory for chemical analysis, laboratory of microbiology, laboratory for physical and mechanical tests, a pilot plant for the development of semi-industrial processes, rooms for training courses, library and auditorium for conferences. The Centre has a technical staff of 24 people, specialized in different areas: Leather Technology, Chemical Engineering, Environment, Safety at Work, Food Safety and Economic and Financial areas. CTIC provides scientific and technological support to the sector, assuming a predominant role in the implementation of new technologies and processes, in the research and development, and in the environment preservation, which leads the sector to the technical sophistication, innovation, process rationalization, cost reduction, productivity gains and differentiation. In the Training and Information areas CTIC provides professional training courses for the sector, in-company-training for staff, publishes a Technical Newsletter and organizes several seminars and exhibitions. The Centre has public recognitions for training, and it is certified under ISO 9001 and ISO 17025, being also the national standardization body for Leather, participating also in CEN – European Committee for Standardization.

University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB)

University Politehnica of Bucharest is the oldest and the largest technical university in Romania with 15 faculties and about 25,000 students. It ranked in the best category of universities in Romania (Advanced Research and Education) as presenting "High Degree of Confidence" after the national institutional assessment for the period 2015-2020. Faculty of Entrepreneurship, Business Engineering and Management (FAIMA) is one of the fastest growing faculties in the university (it tripled its number of students in the last 3 years) and it provides effective entrepreneurial education, engineering and managerial training for students at bachelor, master and doctoral degrees. It has strong connection to the business environment in Romania and to the national and international academic environment. UPB participates in many scholarly European programs such as Erasmus or Leonardo da Vinci in line with the approved Erasmus University Charter 2014 – 2020. She is currently a tenured Associate Professor with UPB, Faculty of Entrepreneurship, Business Management and Engineering (FAIMA), Department of Entrepreneurship and Management; Ph.D. Coordinator, Reviewer for 8 scientific journals and conferences (5 indexed in Clarivate Analytics and SCOPUS).

Her activity includes 12 books, over 50 articles in Clarivate Analytics and other international databases proceedings and journals, H-index: 8 in Google Scholar and 7 in Clarivate Analytics, 5 patents and 3 patent applications (1 European), Project Director and Responsible for 8 national and international projects won by competition, team member in over 15 national and international projects since 2000; 6 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 23 special awards at international inventions fairs (Brussels, Genève, Nuremberg, Iasi) and 2 prizes for the research activity; Reviewer of EVAL-INCO database, Germany (ERA-NET).

Kaunas University of Technology is a state higher education institution functioning under the law on Higher Education and Research of the Republic of Lithuania. About 20 R&D projects were carried out improving leather technologies accordingly to requests of Lithuanian enterprises. The research group took part in joint research programme of Lithuania and Ukraine and carried out project entitled "Orthopeadic leather having antimicrobial effect as product of environmentally clean technology". area. Project under EUREKA programme with Romania and Ukraine entitled "Less hazardous salts for leather processing" was coordinated by Lithuania side.

The National Research and Development Institute for Textiles and Leather – Division: Leather and Footwear Research Institute (INCDTP-ICPI)

Leather and Footwear Research Institute is the Division of the National Research and Development Institute for Textiles and Leather established in Bucharest since 1951. In Romania INCDTP-ICPI possesses unique expertise and R&D facilities in the field of leather processing, shoe manufacturing and allied fields.

In recent years the Institute’s dynamic and comprehensive presence at national & international level made possible the development and promotion of interdisciplinary applied research in the following R&D directions:

  • Eco-innovative technologies & advanced materials for leather, rubber and footwear industries; •Recycling / valorization of wastes in leather and footwear sectors for added value by-products generation; •Advanced biomaterials based on collagen with applications in medicine, pharmacy and cosmetics; •Medical footwear used in the conservative treatment of the lower limb path mechanics; •Studies regarding environmental factors and degradation degree assessment, conservation and treatment procedures/materials for restoration of collagen based historical objects; •Improving leather & footwear sector sustainability by integrated quality control and environmental impact monitoring towards eco-efficiency. ICPI has a portfolio of ab. 65 international projects (FP5, FP7, EUREKA, EUROSTARS, PHARE, LEONARDO da VINCI, IEE, ERA.NET, ERASMUS+ and SD grants). In the last 5 years INCDTP-ICPI participated in LLP/ERASMUS Training Programs as Host organization for professors and students from Romania, Greece, Turkey, Lithuania, Czech Republic and China. All these outstanding performances of ICPI were and are possible due to: the multidisciplinary skills of its personnel, a modern RDI infrastructure (high-tech equipment for instrumental analysis, accredited laboratory, modern pilot stations), national and international recognition and visibility (national/international partnerships, active participation in national, EU and international associations, networks etc.).

Director and 1st degree Senior Researcher at INCDTP –ICPI.

She graduated in 1981 the Polytechnic University of Iasi, specialization chemist engineer in leather. In 2005 gained the PhD degree in the field of Material Engineering & Science. Top Management (2000) and trainer course specialization (2011). L.Albu has participated in ab. 84 research projects, 16 being European or international and 20 being coordinated by herself. She was the representative of the Romanian leather sector in the project PERFECTLINK (Pan European Federation of Clothing, Textile and Leather Industries Networking and Knowledge building programme) - PHARE BSP 2 program (2003-2005).

Dr. Albu is the co-author of more than 70 papers published in Romania and abroad. President of INCDTP Scientific Board; Vice-president of the Directors Board of INCDTP, member in different associations: APPBR (Secretary General), COTANCE, IULTCS, GERIC, UITIC. She was associated professor at UPB (2002-2003 & 2006-2007).

Chairperson of the Organizing and Scientific Committees of the ICAMS Conference (www.icams.ro); member of other international Scientific Committees and is the Editor of Leather and Footwear Journal”. Significant achievements in the project’s field: 7 projects and 10 papers.
